Driver Identification – Required Documentation for Car Rental in Rwanda

What Driver Identification Is Required?
To rent a car from Rent Self Drive Rwanda, each primary driver must provide the following documents:
- Valid Driver’s License
You must present a valid driver’s license held for a minimum of 12 months.- Rwandan residents must have a local Rwandan driver's license.
- International visitors may use their International Driver’s Permit (IDP) alongside their home country license.

- Passport or National ID
For non-residents, a valid passport is required. Rwandan citizens can use their National ID (NID). These documents help verify identity and are retained on file for the duration of the rental. - Photocopies and Digital Backups
We recommend all renters bring both original documents and photocopies, or scanned versions saved on a phone or cloud storage for convenience during police checks, border crossings, or insurance claims.

Who Needs to Present Identification?
